I don’t have what I want because I didn’t genuinely want it; it was just wishful thinking. Deep down, I justified my status quo, finding comfort and safety in my present state.
The little girl asked, "How does one become a butterfly?" Her mother responded, "You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar".
Transforming into a butterfly is painful and hard. And perhaps that’s why not all caterpillars turn into butterflies.
I believe the following steps will help me make the change.
Step 1
Find the answer to to the question - what do I really want?
We often act according to what the world expects of us. We conform to societal expectations. We do things because the world tells us what to do.
Don't wear a mask. Be honest and embrace sincerity. Be serious about discovering my personal truth. Once I find it, nothing else will matter.
People get to where they want to go because they know where they want to go. Most people don’t know where they want to go. - Oprah Winfrey
Step 2
Every decision and every action should support this “ONE” goal.
The fact that I don’t have this “ONE” thing yet should make me restless and motivate me to do something about it.
I should be mindful of the following two obstacles
Wanting too many things.
Laziness. I must remember - “avoidance is comfortable”.
Step 3 - Additional
Find a Coach. Someone who can keep me on track. Someone who will give me the unpleasant feedback.
The company I keep is important.
Habits shape our lives by creating a framework within which we operate. They can either propel us toward success or pull us into less desirable states.
